BGU Grant F'back 2024 Haslam Park Bowl

Just to confirm that we have received the BGU grant of £200. We are very grateful to receive this as Bolton Council for many years has neglected the park's bowling greens. They only mow the greens from March to September and will not spend money or time in keeping the greens in good condition nor on the facilities, this is down to the club members. We are a small club and have difficulties in raising funds for the upkeep of the facilities. In March we had an outside supplier do some mechanical work on the green £132 and bought feed and moss killer for £100 and with help from our members spread this over the green. Sadly, the surrounds have been neglected and with your grant we are going to revive these areas with new plants and essential maintenance.

The funding is being spent on reviving and replacing plants in the troughs around the bowling green. Green maintenance in preparation of the new season. Hut cleaning and maintenance.

We will be opening the facilities to the public including a local special needs school encouraging them to participate in our activities. Also providing a pleasant area for people to sit and watch games of bowls.

The grant has had a positive effect on the members who feel buoyed that after winter of neglect the facilities are coming back to life and the benefit to the community will be seen once the season starts
