Woodland Trust North are hosting a Balsam Bash in the area of Walker Fold woods and paths Balsam Bashing Evening at Smithills Estate Tickets, Tuesday, June 16 • 6 PM – 8 PM | Eventbrite
Join us for a after work/school activity protecting our native flora as as we tackle the invasive Himalayan Balsam together.
Himalayan Balsam, an invasive plant species, harms British ecosystems by outcompeting our native plants due to its fast spread and growth. Balsam Bashing events are an opportunity to put practical conservation into action. All equipment will be provided and our expert staff and volunteers will be on hand to help.

- All ages of family are welcome. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- When dressing for the outdoors, wear appropriate clothing that covers your skin to avoid getting bitten by ticks and stung by plants. Midges and horse flies are common on site so you may want to wear insect repellent.
- Depending on the weather, you may need to wear suncream and a hat or bring waterproof clothing.
- Bring any refreshments you may need, including water.
- Please make the Woodland Trust team aware of any medical issues before the start of the walk, e.g. asthma, diabetes, etc.
- Walker Fold car park has 60 spaces and is free but donations are welcome via our solar-powered car park machine.
- Walker Fold can have poor phone signal, please plan your route ahead of time.
- This event will be cancelled if there is severe weather. Please check your emails on the day before the walk and ensure you come in weather-appropriate gear.
