Full Description:

This group has become more active recently after becoming aware that many people do not know about the beautiful Captains Clough. Designated a Local Nature Reserve it is a green corridor stretching from Ivy Road almost to Doffcocker Lodge. Probably formed during the ice age the valley could be described as a temperate rainforest and is very bio diverse. It has some historical interest, being once part of an estate belonging to Halliwell Hall and parts of the estate can still be evidenced.
The aim of our group is to open up Captains Clough by installing signposts and information lecterns and by upgrading paths and steps to make it more accessible to more people. This hidden gem deserves to be more widely known and appreciated.
