Brief Description:

We have a school Earth Group for children who are keen to learn about the environment and conservation.

Full Description:

We have recently started a school Earth Group for children who are keen to learn about the environment and conservation.

The group meet each week after school with the Head teacher to undertake projects including: litter picking, developing recycling strategies in school and at home, planting and growing fruit and vegetables to then prepare, cook and eat, developing school initiatives to raise awareness of conservation issues eg support in school for WWF Earth Hour with classes raising money to adopt endangered animals.

The group are based on the school premises with usage made of the outdoor wildlife area and woodland areas.

We are keen to develop the wildlife area and other areas around the school with planting boxes to enable the Earth Group to model, lead and support other children (and staff) in school to plant and grow their own fruit and vegetables. If we are successful we would aim to use some of the funding to purchase planting boxes and fruit and vegetable seeds along with trowels, gloves etc

We are also keen to make litter picking a weekly routine for children of all ages to participate in and be aware of. The purchase of litter picking sticks, gloves, bags etc would therefore be very helpful.
