Full Description:
Willow Hey is an open and welcoming environmental space situated on the boundary between Great Lever and Farnworth communities on a former abandoned allotment site. The project was initially established to help reduce food poverty, encourage food growing on site, in their own gardens and help improve health and wellbeing outcomes for local residents.
The project we have developed over 11 years offers somewhere for the community to go to connect with others who are interested in food growing and the wide range of activities provided across the seasons. The site was developed for those who are feeling isolated, struggle with social anxiety, experience loneliness, or who are in recovery from mild mental health challenges. The environmental site offers opportunities to connect with nature, socialise, develop new friendships to support the community to come together.
Willow Hey is a Bolton at Home supported community project that empowers local volunteers and sessional workers to get involved to deliver a wide range of projects suitable for community to access, such as food growing, woodworking, women’s group, arts and crafts, social eating, bee keeping and health and wellbeing themed activities. The project delivers four significant events annually, Willow Hey Community Project Festival, Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser, Halloween Community Party, and Christmas Carol event.
