In March we received our grant from Bolton Green Umbrella and we used it to create a small pollinator garden. We have now completed it, see the photos. Its a small garden area separated by timber edging and containing a mixture of pollen-rich plants we have planted and insect-friendly ‘weeds’ we are encouraging to self-seed. We will be adding summer and autumn flowering plants to keep a pollen source throughout the year. To one side we have created a ‘sandarium’, a sloping bed of sand and soil in which we hope solitary bees, wasps and other mining insects can make their home. Many thanks to BGU for the grant.
