Many thanks for the grant from BGU which funded most of the cost of the purchase of a scythe, starter kit and set up training
We have set aside part of the lower graveyard at St James’ Church to create a meadow.
We are increasing the diversity of wild flowers and other plants improving the habitat for wildlife, especially pollinating insects and birds.
Our volunteers are looking forward to learning another skill and seeing the benefits of a meadow cultivated by traditional methods. They will not miss the noisy strimmer!
This is enriching the experience of those who come to our site:
– children from Leverhulme School on educational / community engagement visits
– members of the public visiting graves, walking their dogs or just spending some time in a peaceful place or simply passing through
– nearby residents overlooking the graveyard
We have received positive comments from all of the above verbally and via our Facebook page
