Bolton Green Umbrella are part of the Big Balsam Bash 2026
We are joining forces with Lancashire Wildlife Trust, Bolton Council, and a range of environmental voluntary groups in Bolton as well as teaming up with Bury Council and voluntary groups in Bury.
The Big Balsam Bash website (https://bigbalsambash.co.uk/index.html#) has extensive information plus a calendar of bash events in Bolton and Bury, and we have a page on this website dedicated to the Balsam Bash:
Bolton events are also shown on the Events page of the BGU website and listed in the following schedule: https://boltongreenumbrella.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Balsam_Volunteer_Schedule.pdf
We are hoping as many volunteers as possible will join these events, so please check out the calendar/schedule and come along to help us!
If you are organising your own Bash event and would like to promote it on the BGU website please send us the details.
Invasive Non-Native species cost the UK £1.9 billion per year and contribute to 60% of global biodiversity loss. Himalayan Balsam is a major threat to local wildlife: it outcompetes native plants, increases the long-term flood risk as well as destabalising riverbanks and accelerating riverbank erosion.
Every year we fail to act Himalayan Balsam spreads dramatically. Our mission is to empower people with the information and confidence to tackle Himalayan Balsam where they live.
