Feedback on BGU donation - Seven Acres
Friends of Seven Acres | Wednesday 23 September 2020 | 0 Comments
The Friends of Seven Acres have been in operation since 2005 and we usually meet-up, on a Friday, under the guidance and supervision of the Wildlife Trust.
The £500.00 grant allowed us to buy our own tools which gave us a degree of independence from the Wildlife Trust and allow us to do a wide range of conservation work around the Seven Acres Local Nature Reserve.
Although we usually meet up collectively just once a week, members of the Friends group can be seen picking up litter and dealing with fly-tipping any day of the week and we are continually receiving ‘thanks’ from members of the public.
The Wildlife Trust has been furloughed since March this year but, because we have our own tools and have been able to buy gloves, masks, sanitisers etc. we have been able to continue some work on Seven Acres – albeit in a slightly restricted manner.
The spirit of the group of Friends is quite remarkable and they tackle even the most unsavoury tasks with what seems to be a relish!
When litter-picking, one of our members even separates-out those little metal canisters (nitrous oxide) and hands them in to a charity that ‘weighs
them in’ and gives a donation to the Woodland Trust.
This year, one of our tasks was to spruce-up the fence line at Bury Road – we see the fence line as our ‘shop window’ to Seven Acres – and, whilst
doing it, the ladies received a lot of attention from the passing traffic!
The high quality white paint was supplied by the Seven Acres Men in Sheds (SAMIS).
In April 2019 we suppled and installed a new bench at the area known as Pebble Beach and, when normality returns, we plan to install two more
benches elsewhere on Seven Acres.
