Willow tit survey - volunteers needed

Lancashire Wildlife Trust:  Can you help survey for the threatened Willow Tit?

In Britain, Willow Tit have suffered an alarming decline of around 94% since the 1970s. It is thought around 15% of the national population can be found in north-west England, with only 2750 pairs nationally. We want to better understand the Willow Tit’s presence across the Mersey catchment landscape of Greater Manchester and north-west Cheshire to design effective interventions which will enhance their habitat and improve its connectivity.

To do this, we are looking for volunteers to survey for Willow Tit in the Bolton area. The survey results that volunteers will collect will both further our knowledge of how the species use the landscape, allowing the planning of future long-term measures, and inform targeted habitat development work aimed at securing the population and allowing movement.

We will provide training and support and there will be flexibility in the commitment required so you can make this exciting opportunity to contribute to landscape scale recovery work for you.

A training session will be held in February 2024 at the Bolton Environmental Resource Centre 499-511 Bury Road, Bolton BL2 3DD.
