BGU/BCV Community Allotment a huge success!

Bolton Green Umbrella Monday 23 February 2026

One of BGU’s targeted projects using funding from Bolton Council/UKSPF has been the setting up of a community allotment on Tonge Moor Allotment site. The work has been carried out by volunteers from Bolton Conservation Volunteers  began in late 2024  and has transformed a completely derelict plot into a thriving growing site and community hub.

A number of raised beds have been established, one of which has been taken over by the nearby St Andrew’s ECO church, plus a poly tunnel and very recently a shipping crate which will be used for our tool hub.

The volunteers have become very involved with other plot holders on the site and have taken part in a range of community events such as a scarecrow competition and a summer barbecue.
