BGU Grant F’back 2024 B&B Swifts

Bolton & Bury Swifts Monday 08 September 2025

Thank-you so much for the grant from BGU.

We used the money to purchase Duraply wood and UPVC to make good quality longlife swift boxes, this 10 boxes and then we purchased 4 micro call players to supply to people we are fitting the boxes for to enable them to hopefully attract Swifts to their new swift boxes, which our group are due to install on the Flower Estate in Farnworth and Church Road area in Halliwell

We feel we have improved the local environment by encouraging people to become interested in the natural world and raising awareness about Swifts and their protection and continued presence, brightening our summer skies

It has had a positive effect on our conservation team who are very grateful and encouraged by this support

It has benefitted the local community by allowing them to feel connected to the natural world and that they are doing something to help by having Swifts Boxes on their homes, which suit other Red List species too, like House Sparrow

The boxes are only just started to be installed but people are pleased to be having them and one person has told us he is very excited and looking forward to the summer and hopefully Swifts arriving and using the new boxes.
