Community litter bins in Bolton

Monday 08 September 2025

Look how many community litter bins there are in Bolton! These are mainly installed by Bolton Council but maintained by VOLUNTEERS who place the full bags next to a council bin for collection, and replace with a new bag. In general this works extremely well and has helped enormously in keeping Bolton streets and green spaces much cleaner. There are some issues – people abusing the bins by using them for household waste, foxes ripping the bags …. but in general they are a great success:  https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1BanSEnYMFKY_sVQPGnXM0nSSSZCAApQ&ll=53.577164537950985%2C-2.434525870344848&z=12

A commmunity bin can only be installed where there is commitment from volunteers to maintain it
