BCV help Friends of Firwood

On Sunday 7th October Bolton Conservation Volunteers joined forces with Friends of Firwood to do some conservation work in the Firwood area. BCV are a large group of volunteers with a vast range of skills and experience in all types of conservation work.
As Firwood Fold and surrounding woodlands and fishing lodges are part of a conservation area Bolton Council were consulted and gave permission and guidance on the work to be carried out.

The area leading from Firwood Fold to “The Bunk” was subject to clearing of designated saplings, young trees, and shrubbery in order to make the area much lighter. This makes it feel safer for walkers, and also ensures that the newly improved path will be less likely to become muddy and impassable in the winter months.

In addition 150 young trees have been planted alongside the existing fences; these will form hedging so that as the fencing deteriorates the hedges will be maturing and will take the place of the fence.
Thank-you BCV!!
