Friends of Firwood

Firwood Fold is a small hamlet of very pretty cottages which were originally occupied by local farm workers. It was the town's first conservation area but is best known for being the birthplace of Samuel Crompton, arguably Bolton's most famous historical figure. The website link below is to the Visit Northwest website page on Firwood Fold.

Friends of Firwood is a community group in the area of Firwood Fold. We have regular work parties in which we undertake conservation work in the surrounding woodlands and fishing ponds.

We have had help from Bolton Conservation Volunteers who have brought their expertise (and manpower!) several times over the last few years. They have guided us with tree planting, cutting back overgrown shrubbery, improving paths, hedge laying, and balsam bashing to name but a few activities. They also completed rebuilt the dry stone wall in the lane which leads down to the Fold.

We have held numerous community events in the last few years, the most recent being a street party for the King's Coronation. We have also held coffee mornings plus social events and meetings at Tonge Cricket Club

Volunteers for our monthly work parties are very welcome! We are a friendly bunch, so please don't hesitate to get in touch

We meet Monthly on Sundays between 10 am and 12 pm.
