Bolton Conservation Volunteers
BCV have had another busy year. In 2022 we worked at The Barlow (formerly the Barlow Institute), Dunscar Woods, Longsight Park, Moses Gate Country Park, Doffcocker Lodge, Jumbles Country Park, Firwood Fold, Eatock Lodge, Ousels Nest Quarry, Moses Gate Country Park, and Chew Moor. We've planted trees, coppiced willow, laid hedges, managed woodlands, managed reedbeds, created and restored ponds, and made charcoal to name a few.
Conservation work, like the seasons, changes through the year. Winter sees woodlands and hedgerows managed; spring can see trees planted and ponds dug; summer is a time for tackling invasive species and tidying paths; in autumn we work on meadows, reedbeds and ponds; winter comes round again and cycle begins over. We always work to avoid nesting and spawning times to so as not to disturb wildlife, and work ahead to prepare sites for the coming months. We work through the year in snow, and rain, and sun maintaining Bolton's wild world.
2023 will see us continuing our work at sites old and new. New volunteers are always welcome, to join in just get in touch using the links on this page or on our website
