BGU Grant F'back 2024 Girl Guide HQ

We are very grateful for the grant from BGU, thank-you
The application process was very clear and easy to follow. The funding has been spent on purchasing plants to put into the grounds of the Girl Guide Headquarters at Shepherd Cross Street and a rubbish bin for litter.  We are at the beginning of a journey to make our premises more open and engaged with the local community.  We are involving community groups in planting activities to develop this engagement.

The plants will help to make the environment more attractive and welcoming and will also help attract insects, birds and small wildlife to the area.  Hopefully it will also encourage users to be more respectful of our natural environment.

Volunteers are noticing the changes and wanting to support the project in any way they can.  The grounds of the property have, up until now, been very underused and people are becoming more aware of the amazing facility we have.

The local community have commented but as yet we are struggling to get any regular engagement.  It would be fair to say the community in which the property is situated is “hard to reach”. Until now the Guides have not engaged with the community so this is a very new initiative and one that is going to take a while to progress.  However people are interested and have been asking about the building and its function.
