Willow Hey Community Project

The Willow Hey Community Project is located on a disused allotment site at Doe Hey Grove, Farnworth.

The project was initially set up to tackle food poverty in the local community as lots of families were using the local food banks. The project supports local families to grow their own healthy organic food on the site and in their own gardens. Many events and community celebrations are held on the site to help bring the local community together and raise awareness about the Willow Hey Project.

Over the last few years we have established a hugely successful Men in Sheds Project on the site which supports isolated, vulnerable men and offers weekly practical hands-on skills including woodworking, landscaping, food growing and social sessions. Men in Sheds currently supports on average 30-40 men per week and has encouraged them to successfully widen their social networks and build lasting friendships. The project has won local and regional awards for the impact it has had in the community and the project is going from strength to strength. We are always looking for support to develop the project going forward, so if you can help out in any way, your support would be much appreciated.

We are currently looking at developing a forest school and training centre on the Willow Hey site which will support children and families in the local and wider community to enjoy the outdoors whilst learning new practical and life skills to support the development of personal resilience.
