We also do basic conservation work in the area, clearing paths, cutting back overgrown shrubs, generally tidying to make everywhere looked loved and cared for and, of course, litterpicking.

We have started working in the grounds of St James Church, clearing undergrowth around the graves giving a more respectful environment for those buried there.... there has been a fantastic from local residents who have come out in force to help. This church dates back to the 1800s and the cemetery also has war graves in it. In Summer 2020 I put out a call for help in clearing St James’ Church, Farnworth, grounds.

St James’ Church has unfortunately closed and over the last two years become derelict. The graveyard had been left to become completely overgrown. Volunteers came forward and we applied for funding through Bolton Green Umbrella and given a grant out of the High Street Community Clean Up fund.

New Bury Community Action Team's first big project in New Bury is restoring the grounds and graveyard of St James Church, which has been empty and sadly neglected for several years. 

There was a fantastic turnout at St James's Church on 22nd July. Made a big difference tonight. Hosted by John Dwyer.
