Group Logo

GPAG (Darcy Lever Gravel Pits Action Group) have been around since 2004 and are responsible for the maintenance and prosperity of 27 acres of woodland and ponds in the Darcy Lever area of Bolton. We carry out all types of woodland and pond maintenance work from litter picking, pruning trees, shrub clearance, path and boardwalk repairs to mention a few, from habitat management to biodiversity surveying.
We encourage all volunteers and visitors to submit all accurate records to GMLRC (Great Manchester Local Record Centre) or other recording systems to help maintain and improve the site's legal protection and help obtaining funding to target ours and other groups' conservation efforts in the Gravel Pits. We usually do voluntary work on Saturday 10.30am to 1.00pm, along with tasks undertaken on other days involving students from a few local schools and events for the local community, like bat walks, pond dipping and our spectacular GPAG open day at pond 11 (usually referred to as the dipping pond)
We are always on the look out for new volunteers and if you are interested, either contact us through our website(please note the website sometimes does not display properly on mobile phones and appears as a vertical strip to make readable you have to expand this), message the group through its Facebook page or see our contact details below.
We also have a WhatsApp group which we find a useful way to keep in touch and all new volunteers are recommended to join providing they have a suitable phone and software.
For our regular Saturday task we meet on Croftside, Darcy Lever at 10.20am then leaving for the task site in the Gravel Pits at 10.30am. Anyone arriving late please phone Mike for directions.

Thank-you for the grant from BGU to help with our work at Darcy Lever Gravel Pits.
Our long term project is to set up a dedicated bird feeding station, that is both vandal proof and squirrel proof.
