Thank-you for the BGU grant!
It was particularly good to have a quick decision as plants have seasonal availability
We purchased plants as follows:
Snowdrops/ bluebells in the green, Hardy geranium, Michaelmas daisy, Winter flowering heather, nerine bulbs, eryngiun planum, Primula vulgaris
Have planted the plants on the green island. Up till now we've only More.....
Gilnow Road Green Island
What?
We are local residents who want to take the traffic island at the corner of Gilnow Road & Park Road under community management & fill it with lovely plants so it becomes a green island!
• To provide a place for insects such as bees & butterflies
• To make the spot look loved & valued
• To create something nice for people who live nearby & regularly pass by
• Autumn 2023 start
Since the space is fairly small this is expected to be mainly seasonal sessions (eg planting time, readying for winter, weeding gang), with only a small amount of regular tending, litter picking, keeping an eye on the space etc
What can I do?
• Donate plants or spring bulbs
• Plants must have max fully grown height no more than 1m because of the junction
• Come & help plant them once the council rotavates it for us in September
• Spread the word so others know what we want to do!
