BGU Grant F'back 2024 Lever Edge Pickers

Thank-you so much for the BGU grant which we have put to good use.

We purchased new pickers as the ones from the council are not very good when we are out so often. Cartridges for our printer so we can print off our pictures, we have bought signs for the park, no dog fouling as the council didn’t have any & we had a problem, also we have used some money to purchase a bin in a problem area which has made a big difference.
We have been able to improve the environment with better equipment & having the signs also the new bin we have a cleaner area.

It is so rewarding to see an area clean after we have targeted it, we have also reported several fly  tips in our area with address passed on to our enforcement teams, we have cleaned ourselves, we have had positive comments from areas that we have been working in. From the beginning of 2024 Lever Edge Pickers have collected over 450 bags. We meet up regular with other groups on big picks so our total is well over 600 bags

We advertise what we are  doing but are finding it difficult to get residents to come out with us even when we tell them we can provide all equipment needed, hoops, pickers & gloves

We get very positive feedback from local residents. We have a face book page which people like to view to see what we have been up to when we have been out & about doing our picks, they are usually very vocal about what we have done for the better. They tell us about places that they would like us to clear, and the responses are very positive, they can tell when we have been, They ask us to come to their streets we have said we will come to your streets, we then invite them to get involved, and ask them support us.

We are constantly trying to get more volunteers, which is very hard work maybe in the summer when the light nights come.
