The Society's objectives are to restore, reconstruct, preserve, maintain and improve the Manchester Bolton & Bury Canal and towpath from Hall Lane Basin, Little Lever down the River Valley to the River Irwell at Middlewood in Salford, to Church Wharf in Bolton, and to Bury Bridges in Bury.

We meet monthly on the second weekend (Saturday and Sunday) of each month to clear, maintain and improve the canal, towpath and surrounding areas.

The Society work with Bolton, Salford and Bury Councils, Canal and River Trust and Watson Homes in the Restoration Partnership to achieve the vision for the MB&B Canal -

• Restored in stages, starting with the summit level from Little Lever through Radcliffe to Bury
• Enjoyed by as many people as possible, residents and visitors
• Provide a catalyst to regenerate the communities and land alongside it
• Be an improved natural asset that contributes to addressing climate change
• Become economically sustainable.

We meet Monthly on Saturdays between 10am and 4pm.

Campaigners from the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal Society have long-standing ambitions to restore the waterway to its former glory, and the latest feasibility study, commissioned jointly by the Canal and River Trust, the canal society and Bolton and Bury councils, has revealed the benefits of rejuvenating the five-mile stretch between the two towns.

Here is an update from MBBCS about the benefits resulting from the donation from the High Street Clean-up Fund.
 
We used the money to improve access and appearance of the footpath from the Church Road, Prestolee to Stoneclough Community Woodland.
The footpath connects this main road in Prestolee to the MBB Canal through a recently restored community woodland.
