Settle Street Allotments Association

Settle Street Allotments Association manages the site on behalf of Bolton Council.

We meet on a monthly basis throughout the growing season, and organize a "Fun Day/Show Day" every year to which the public are invited. We try to encourage people to grow their own produce, and have organised events for the children of Sunning Hill School to see for themselves how plants are grown.

Since taking on the management of the site from Bolton Council, we have installed large compost bays for use of all tenants, and begun a community orchard. We are constantly looking at ways in which we can improve the site, which includes a large area of waste land overgrown with Japanese knotweed and each year hold a "Tidy Up Weekend" to clear plastic and rubbish from the site. This is an area which we would like to turn into a community orchard, and encourage wildlife.

The event is run by the committee and is advertised to all plot holders, friend More.....

I am sorry to say that we have not managed to spend the grant money yet, due to Covid restrictions. Our allotment site has been virually closed down, apart from a small number of tenants who have still been able to cultivate their plots. Some people have not been able to do anything, as they have been shielding.
But as soon as Covid restrictions come to an end we will be resuming our activities and the BGU grant money will then be a great help!! Thank-you
