The Over Hulton Allotment is next to the M61 bridge on St Helens Road, Over Hulton. It was created by two residents who lived close by. They put a lot of time, effort and investment into creating a quality allotment area. When they moved house they wished to bequeath the allotment, totally free of charge, to the local community. They contacted the Over Hulton Community Group with this proposal and the group took it over. The land is leased from Peel Holdings at a charge of £120 per annum. Dave Hammond is the coordinator of the group and currently has ten sub tenants at a charge of £20 per annum. Prior to the allotment being created the area was regularly subjected to fly tipping.
The allotment members interact regularly with the local community. At the end of the growing season they leave surplus produce out for members of the public to gather and let people enter to pick fruit. This was especially well received during Covid when they grew quite a lot of fruit and veg that people were grateful to come and collect. They have a plan for this season to grow pumpkins for the local kids on Halloween!

The photo is of the polytunnel we are in the process of buying - the ground is being prepared at the moment.
We have bought the polytunnel (price £180) for our allotment plus £20 on pots and seeding trays
Our plans are to raise plants from seed for our comunity gardens, hanging baskets and particularly for the bowling club. We estimate this will save the community in the region of £500 per year.
