Friends of Longsight Park have received a Community Green Flag Award!

Great news despite a challenging year!


Last year Malcolm, director of parks Bolton, recommended the Friends apply for pocket park funding for Bolton arboretum. A stipulation of this central communities government funding is to apply for a community green flag award. 

With help from Andy Grundy of parks, we gained £6,400 and with £500 from Bolton CVS for a bench we had path repair down to Daubentons bridge, 2 benches installed as there was no seating and a notice board put up. The path repair was washed away and a more permanent solution found. We have continued to undertake incremental improvements to the trees and this had all been recognised with a green flag communities award. The official date for results is 14th October but this (image attached) came to our house for the friends yesterday. Well done to everybody for all the effort you have put in, esp. David and Christine Connor for the arboretum care over many, many years.

Also, yesterday Play and Youth Bolton had a wonderful set of pictures on face book and shared to our friends facebook group of young people and children with disabilities enjoying the disability friendly equipment in the renovated play area in Longsight Park. If you haven't seen the pics do go and look on facebook. So, congratulations to Bolton councillors and council for the renovation and the pleasure it has given people during a tricky year.
