Friends of Harwood & Longsight Park
In Longsight Park we look after and undertake litter picking, noticeboards, maps, path and seating improvement, there is a chess/ draughts metal table in the arboretum, flower beds, planting 100s of bulbs, creation of run England 3-2-1 trails, maintenance of our part of Kingfisher Trail, maintenance of adjacent PROWs ( public rights of way), care of Bolton arboretum and related carpark, care of play area though problems and inspection are done by the council, care of Millenium Wood. We also created and maintain the flower beds at Bradshaw and Harwood.
Community Green Flag awarded last 4 consecutive years.
We meet on the last Sunday of the month at 1.30pm usually but please email first to check and yes we would love help and to meet you.
We are not insured for under 18 year olds so they need an adult with them who acts as their guardian
We meet Monthly on Sundays between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

Congratulations to Friends of Longsight Park !!
Their tireless efforts to breathe life back into this little known oasis in the heart of Harwood’s Longsight Park, has won Bolton arboretum international recognition with a prestigious Green Flag Community Award,More.....
Thanks to the donation from Bolton Green Umbrella we have been able to install signage to the various areas of Longsight Park,
so that visitors to the park can find their way to the play area and Bolton Arboretum.
Friends of Longsight Park have received a Community Green Flag Award!
Great news despite a challenging year!
Last year Malcolm, director of parks Bolton, recommended the Friends apply for pocket park funding for Bolton arboretum. A stipulation of this central communities government funding is to apply for a community green flag award.
With help from Andy Grundy of parks, we gained £6,400 and with £ More.....

Dear Green Umbrella, Having spent down to our last £16 we are very pleased as Friends of Longsight Park to have £100 donated by Green Umbrella. This allows us to pay for bedding to the park beds in April/May. Although we have planted the park beds with perennials the sight of bright bedding, especially geraniums is always welcome. In addition bedding geraniums do not need watering and flower until the first frosts making them good value. Thankyou from all the friends of Longsight Pa More.....

Here is a story of how a single person can really make a difference, with a lovely innovative idea. Jane H lives in Harwood, and is a very active "lone picker" member of The Litter Pickers of North Bolton. She and several other Harwood residents have regular litter picking routes around Harwood which keep this lovely area largely free of litter.
