Over Hulton: Cut Acre Country Park

Over Hulton Community Group | Friday 28 August 2020 | 0 Comments

Bolton's "hidden gem" has been well and truly discovered during lockdown. Cutacre Country Park on the A6 Salford Road next to Junction 4 M61 - head out of Over Hulton towards Walkden and it's on the right - has become a very welcome refuge for people to social distance but get their fresh air and exercise. It opened two years ago but parts are still under construction particularly down to the south Tyldesley end. As such there has yet to be an official "opening ceremony" and it is not yet signposted on any of the major highways. The joy is however that since March people have made the "discovery" for themselves. It is a 558 acre virtually unblemished wildlife haven with gently undulating landscape, lakes, ponds, foot and cycle paths with stunning views south that range from the Derbyshire Dales across the Cheshire Plain to the Welsh Clwydians and Mersey Estuary.

We have a new group registering with Bolton Green Umbrella - "FRIENDS OF CUTACRE COUNTRY PARK". These wonderful volunteers love and cherish the Park and are determined to maintain it as an area everyone can be proud of and enjoy. Already they have a volunteer Activities Officer in marathon runner and Iron Man contestant Melonie Crompton. Mel organises a Wednesday evening Running Group and is planning weekly walks round the Park. For further details on the runs go to Facebook page "Over Hulton Running Club". To register your interest in the walks email melcrompton@gmail.com Mel is also set to organise guided tours for groups once restrictions start to lift. For mothers with young children - watch out for the buggy running sessions!

A new "attraction" on the Park has also emerged over recent weeks with the amazing work done by the mysterious Ted Rock and #TyldesleyRocks group. They paint rocks in glorious colours and "hide" them on the Park. People find them, photograph them, send a photo into the Facebook page and hide them elsewhere! Go to2020#TyldesleyRocks to see some amazing photos.

Usage of the Park has increased thirtyfold during the pandemic and that brings certain problems but nothing that cannot be rectified. Friends of Cutacre are organising aWeekend Litter Blitzover Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September 10am until noon both days as part of theKeep Britain Tidy Love Parks campaign. The main assembly area is the Cutacre car park on the A6 Salford Road (BL5 1FN). Litter-picking sticks, bags, gloves - and refreshments - will be available for volunteers. To register your interest please email Jenny atparkinsonp1@aol.com
