A recent news article on the Bolton Green Umbrella website highlighted a remarkable young girl from Farnworth called Roxy, who cares so much about her neighbourhood, town and the environment that she started up an environment group for her friends and school mates and called the group "The Society for the Protection of the Earth" (SPE). This group of primary school children hold regular meetings to plan their events, and have organised many litterpicks in their area. Well done SPE!
A few weeks ago Bolton Green Umbrella was able to give SPE a donation of £200, presented to them by Councillor Julie Pattison who is also full of admiration for them.

SPE have now written a Thank-you card which is signed by all the group and reads as follows:
"To Barbra and the rest of Green Umberella
Thanks you so much for the £200 cheque that you donated to the S.P.E. Me and the team are SOOOoooo grateful for it! It will make such a difference to the club!!
Lots of love and best wishes
From the S.P.E
PS. We already have lots of ideas on what to spend it on!"
And please note the green umbrella in the picture! We can only show one photo in this News item, but there is a photo in the Gallery of S.P.E's page on this website.
You are very welcome S.P.E.! You are a shining example, and we look forward to hearing about your activities.
